When we talk with lindy hoppers from other countries than Switzerland, we often have the same feedback: it sounds cool! But we’re afraid of how much we’ll spend over there… Yes, we’re aware of how expensive it can be to come to Switzerland/Bern. We are a non-profit organization; we organize this event for passion for the Lindy Hop and this city. That’s why we try to keep our prices to a minimum, so that everyone who wants can join. Here you’ll find basic information to make your trip and stay as cheap as possible. If you need more help, This email address is being protected from spambots. TRIP
If you want to fly...first get to Switzerland, then come to Bern
Unfortunately, Bern has only a small airport (Belp). The usual low-cost companies don’t operate there, so flights from/to Belp are often expensive. Don’t panic! We’re close to three big airports: Geneva, Zürich and the EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg. Since many operators often fly to the same places, in general there should be no problem finding a good deal.
Once in Switzerland, taking the train is probably your best option. OK, trains in Switzerland are expensive, but there is a trick. Check out this page. If you book in advance and for a specific day&hour, you can save up to 50% of the original price!
Coming from a neighbour contry? Try the train!
Switzerland is well communicated by train with Italy, France and Germany (amongst others). We suggest you to try to buy a ticket until the first Swiss stop and then try the super saver tickets (at least compare the prices, who knows!). When coming from Italy you can try to find good deals in Il trova treni, and same if you come from France in this website.
Night trains can also be a good option, even if you come from further away. Check the train company of your country!!
Fancy a roadtrip?
Coming by bus or car is also an option. If you want to come with your own car remember that you have to buy a sticker in order to use the Swiss’ motorways (you can do it at the border). Another option is to share a car; check Blablacar to see if someone proposes a ride that suits you!
If you are one of those who can sleep anywhere… consider the bus! It can take you some time to join us, but it can be really cheap! For example, you can use CheckMyBus to find one that covers your route.
ACCOMODATION
Many locals are happy to offer a bed/couch. Unfortunately, we cannot host all of you! That’s why we encourage you to register as soon as possible (first come, first served!). If you register too late, or if you prefer other options, you can also consider these places:
- Berne Youth Hostel
- Bern Backpackers
- Landhaus Bern
- Bed & Breakfast im Klee
See this map to place them in the city! Besides this hostels and bed and breakfasts you might find a cheap place to stay at platforms such as Airbnb or ebookers
